Irene’s family moved to Northbrook in 1996, right behind Dundee Pharmacy. In high school, she began working for the pharmacy as a front-end cashier, and quickly moved to the pharmacy pick-up window. She worked alongside founder David Macklin and his sons Larry and Neil.
With medical professionals in her family, Irene planned to be a pediatrician, but while in college realized there was a significant shortage of pharmacists and changed her focus. She also became very passionate about diabetic education.
“Helping patients understand the science behind diabetes can help them avoid developing it, or can slow its progression,” says Irene.
Irene is clear-eyed about our current healthcare system and how much needs to be improved. She soon chose to work in the independent pharmacy setting so she could spend more time with each patient; getting to know them, counseling them about their health conditions helping them prevent disease, and to practice medicine how she has always wanted.
“I love knowing my patients and their families and being able to follow up with them. I am here to provide exceptional, traditional personal care, real medication management review and the one-on-one support we all deserve.”
In 2021, Irene purchased Dundee Pharmacy and continues to be a proud member of the Northbrook community. “I work to train my staff to be the best we can be and continue to grow our services to be a healthcare facility that patients can count on. Dundee Pharmacy should be a place that everyone calls home.”
